A Stinkin' Cute Skunk

Oh, hi!  I think it's safe to say that Spring has officially arrived here in Texas.  Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush are blooming everywhere and the weather has been quite mild.  So, with all of the wildflowers popping up everywhere, I decided to make a spring themed card . . . with a skunk.

I mean, really. . . how cute is that guy?

Anywhooo. . . when I sat down to color him up, I immediately went for my Cool Gray markers, but I wasn't quite getting the results I had hoped for.  I tend to be heavy-handed, so he kept getting darker and darker and I lost the detail of his eyes and rosy cheeks.  And, on top of that, the colors started to look a bit muddy because I over-blended it to death. 😳

So, I looked at my Copic Color Chart and decided to use Blue-Violet markers instead.  Yes, Blue-Violet.  And, ya know what?  I really like how that little guy turned out.

Yep, there's a video, too:

So, have you ever used "unexpected" colors to get the look you're going for? I'd love to hear about it!
